HP Storm Chosen over RCP for Alameda County Storm Drain
Caltrans District 4 and Caltrans Headquarters have a strong familiarity with HP Storm, a polypropylene pipe.

PRODUCTS USED

The insight allowed Bay Cities Paving and Grading to request the use of HP Storm for storm drainage infrastructure at the intersection of I-680 and SR-84. SR-84 is being upgraded to expressway standards between I-580 and I-680 for connectivity in the greater San Francisco area.

HP Storm was chosen for the project after flipping the conveyance pipe from reinforced concrete pipe (RCP). HP Storm provided significant material cost savings and installation savings due to a quicker installation. In addition, HP Storm, which is manufactured in Madera, CA, saved on transportation costs.

HP Storm Chosen over RCP for Alameda County Storm Drain

HP Storm polypropylene pipe provides a greater pipe stiffness for a longer service life and a premium joint performance. The smooth interior wall offers additional strength as well as superior flow. Polypropylene is an inert material and is resistant to the effects of chemicals, abrasion, hot soils and effluent.
