This document is the Water Quality Units Brochure. It describes the benefits, design, installation, retention/detention and specifications of the units.
Standards for storm water quality varies by location and land use. The most targeted sources of runoff pollution are paved areas in urban and industrial sites. These areas generally are high traffic loads that generate significant concentrations of contaminant particles and hydrocarbons.
The benefits of using the ADS underground Water Quality Units are high percentage removal of TSS, oil, grease, heavy metals and TP. It removes floatable debris. Available in various diameters made with high density polyethylene and easily installed. Each unit is fitted with access risers and is affordable. The bypass system prevents re-suspension of captured solids and HDPE resists abrasion and chemicals found in storm water and in the surrounding soil.
The design is simple and there are no moving parts. It installs easily with a minimum of manpower. No heavy cranes needed. For many drainage sites the unit by itself can provide the required degree of pollutant removal. However, certain sites require upstream/downstream treatment. This multi-tiered approach is called treatment train, which provides sediment prevention and inlet protection devices such as screens, filters and silt fences.
Treatment downstream from the WQU involves a retention/detention system. Inlet designs to such underground storage vessels include the “eccentric header system” which consists of a large diameter manifold pipe with an invert lower that smaller inlet pipes to the storage vessels. Thus, the large header pipe acts as a sump where suspended particles can settle.
ADS Storm Water Quality Unit specifications cover scope, requirements, joint performance, material properties, American products, installation and performance.
