Nyloplast Basins, N-12 Remove Stormwater from Data Center
When a new artificial intelligence (AI) data center was being built in Mount Pleasant, WI, a drainage system was needed for the parking lots, driveways and roof runoff.

PRODUCTS USED

These large data center buildings are just the first phase of a much larger development, with several future projects and buildings slated for its extensive 1,347-acre, two-plus square mile footprint.

To capture the site’s stormwater runoff over 400 30” (750 mm) and 18” (450 mm) Nyloplast basins were specified on the initial site plans. The large number of utilities (electric, water lines, fiber optic cables) on site leveraged the light weight Nyloplast basins over traditional materials. Nyloplast basins were easier to install and maneuver around the various utilities.

Nyloplast basins were the ideal size as well for parking lot and driveway drainage, in addition to roof runoff leaders going into the basins. Nyloplast basins also provide field adaptability as Add-A-Branch and Inserta Tee® lateral connections were utilized to connect pipe to the basins.

N-12 high-density polyethylene pipe was added to the plans and selected in lieu of the RCP with 9,480’ (2,890 m) of 12”-15” (300-375 mm) of the dual wall pipe being installed. N-12 was chosen due to the ease of connecting to the Nyloplast basins, long service life, lightweight and the staging advantages of nesting smaller diameters within larger pipes.

The project installation went very smoothly. ADS representatives were available to collaborate with the contractor to ensure ADS products were performing and to consult on adding lateral connections to the Nyloplast basins.

Nyloplast drain basins were custom built for the project as they are for each application. Nyloplast products are more durable and corrosion resistant than precast basins and combine a rugged PVC structure with ductile iron grates. The basins can be easily adjusted in the field to meet the final grade. The structures are shipped with rubber gaskets to ensure a watertight connection.

N-12 dual wall pipe has a corrugated exterior and smooth interior walls for exceptional strength and hydraulics. The inert HDPE material is resistant to the effects of chemicals, abrasions and hot soils. N-12 is available in 4”-60” (100-1500 mm) diameters and in 20’ (6 m) lengths. The inline bell design allows for pipe ends to be pushed together for easy installation. The joint requires only a lubricant during installation which leads to faster installation times.
